↑ Return to HALF

Call My Wine Bluff is back!!

After a 5 year break, the ever-popular “Call My Wine Bluff” is back in Longworth Village Hall on Saturday 27th November, raising money for HALF (Hinton and Longworth Educational Fund).

What is Call My Wine Bluff?

Ted from The Oxford Wine Company and two other experts & friends entertain us as we taste wines, but can your table work out who is telling the truth and who is bluffing?!

Absolutely no need to be a wine expert – it’s a fun & raucous event for anyone.

Tickets & tables

Tickets are £28 each and we can have up to 10 people on a table.  We encourage people to organise their own tables, with a table ‘owner’ who’s responsible for handling payment and letting their table know what’s going on (e.g. about Covid).

If you pay for an entire table before 1 November, there’s a 10% discount, i.e. you only need to pay £252 for 10 seats, rather than the full price of £280.

How to pay:

– Direct bank transfer – sort code: 40-52-40, account number: 00012005, account name: Hinton & Longworth (Educational Fund (HALF).  Please use your name in the details, so we know it’s you
– Some people have reported that they get warnings that the account name can’t be confirmed (presumably the charity bank CAF doesn’t support this feature).  If you’d prefer to send to a checkable account, please contact estella.warwick@gmail.com for her details
– Cash and cheque – please drop them at Lynburn Cottage, Rectory Lane Longworth OX13 5DZ.

What happens on the evening?

  • Staggered entry times from 7pm for a 7:30pm start

The Wine Bluff bit…

  • There are 6 rounds.  For each round the table gets a new bottle of wine to share out, with the label covered up.  Each speaker then gives an amusing, informative and highly convincing description of the wine, but two are bluffing wildly and your table has to decide who’s telling the truth!
  • The winning table gets a bottle of fizz

Other bits…

  • The Bluff wine is included in your ticket and there will be a bar if you’d like to buy more wine (or beer).
  • Your ticket also includes a shared cheese and charcuterie board on each table.
  • We will also do Heads or Tails.  This is an optional game to help raise more money for HALF.  It’s five pounds a head and one person in the hall wins ~£75 in cash.
  • Note, we won’t be doing a raffle this time (Covid, sorry!)

What about Covid?

Covid means we all need to be careful at this sell-out indoor event:

  • It’s going to be busy, it’s going to be crowded and it’ll probably get a bit noisy with everyone talking!  There will be up to 100 people in the hall and you’ll be sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with your neighbours and a couple of feet away from the people on the other side of the table.  Please only attend if you’re comfortable with being this cosy!
  • Do your bit to keep everyone safe
    • Do not attend if you have any Covid symptoms
    • We strongly recommend that you do a lateral flow test before attending (free from the NHS)
    • We strongly recommend that you are fully vaccinated.
  • We’ll be doing our best to keep everyone safe as well, with lots of cleaning, hand sanitizers and behind-the-scenes work (see our 2021 Wine Bluff Covid Risk Assessment).
  • We’ve tried to keep the event as normal as usual but it will be like visiting restaurants or pubs, e.g. check in using the QR code when you arrive, try to stay at your table, wear a mask (if possible) when moving around, try to pay by card not cash, etc.
  • If the Government introduce any restrictions, we’ll almost definitely cancel the event, just to be on the safe side
