Longworth 10k 2012
Spanish Opera Singer is Surprise Winner of Longworth 10k!
The surprise winner of this year’s Longworth 10k, run on Sunday 16 September, was Jordi Garcia Ruiz, a visitor from Barcelona. Jordi, an opera singer, and his wife saw details of the Longworth 10k on the internet while researching their holiday in the UK, and were so impressed that they decided to build it into their schedule.
Jordi completed the course in an impressive time of 35 minutes 36 seconds – the second-fastest time on record.
“I compete in lots of races in Spain, many of them involving thousands of runners: so when visiting this country we decided to find a run which was a bit different,” Jordi explained.
“The Longworth 10k certainly met our expectations: relatively small and friendly, the route was easy to follow and took us through some lovely countryside. We even got to visit a traditional country pub afterwards!”
Perhaps buoyed by the post-Olympic legacy, this year’s run attracted a record 108 participants, raising nearly £1,000 for HALF.
Fastest Male Junior, and overall second, was Thomas Kelly of Abingdon School, in a time of 37 minutes 39 seconds. The fastest Male Veteran was Jin Thorn, in 40 minutes 30 seconds; Fastest Female was Natalie Babington in 45 minutes 10 seconds; Fastest Female Veteran Caeron Phillips of Woodstock Harriers in 48 minutes 41 seconds; and fastest Female Junior Ellie Allsop in 48 minutes 59 seconds. The Fastest Local was Longworth’s Simon Woods in 43 minutes 58 seconds.
