Longworth School has a new Headteacher as of September 2004 - Sandra North. Here's a brief biography.
Sandra North took up appointment as Headteacher of Longworth Undenominational Primary School in September 2004. She lives in Wantage with her husband Graham, and their two children, Emily and Thomas, who are both at University. Sandra and Graham have lived in the Wantage/Grove area for over 25 years.
Sandra grew up in Upminster, Essex and went to school in the East End of London, and she has a degree in History and English from Kent University. She married Graham and moved to Oxfordshire on graduation, and worked as a Civil Servant in the Ministry of Agriculture. She spent a few years at home when Emily and Thomas were young, and then once Thomas started school, Sandra went to Westminster College (now part of Oxford Brookes University) to study on the one-year course for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Her first teaching appointment was in Childrey, at the Ridgeway School, then a very small two-class village school. After four years she moved to All Saints CE Primary School in Didcot where she had many roles and responsibilities, and was Assistant Headteacher for her final three years there.
Sandra believes that what is best for the children should be in the centre of everything about the school, and that school is about many things - working hard, playing hard, aiming high, behaving well, becoming independent and learning to collaborate, being creative, making connections - and having fun!
